All templates now updated to 256 colours

And all future templates will, of course, start as 256 colours! Now that's out of the way, I can hopefully do some more creative work and finish the Hanoverian Horse Grenadier.

With the newer versions of the images with their 256 colour palettes dropping them into a graphics program and colouring them in should be easier. I've found that one of the easiest and most intuitive programs is the free version of Graphics Gale http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/download.html where if you load one of my templates into it it clearly shows you the entire range of 256 colours available and, using the fill tool, you can easily select a colour and fill the required area. Quite a number of graphics programs I personally find *very* unintuitive to use, especially with my templates.

Eeewwwww, another Saxe-Bearstein uniform, huh?

Don't you realize that your business is courting disaster? Only one old uniform for the glorious Kingdom of Stagonia and all of these variations for the Bears?

Be it known that we, in our capacity as King of Stagonia do DEMAND that you cease all other work and begin IMMEDIATELY to devote yourself to exclusively design only for ourselves.

As you may be aware, the French have copied our uniforms as they attempt to bask in our glory . . . but you are only to sell to us and not to the Gaullian syncopates.

David,

We told you he was vile, didn't we?

Do not worry about the rantings of the vile Stagonian tyrant. Remember that you are under the protection of the Principality of Saxe-Bearstein.

We will protect you from this vile Mad Monarch . . . and allow you to continue providing products for your other customers.

To Koenig Maurice of Stagonia: If your Majesty would be so kind as to despatch 40,000 ducats in gold coin to our premises in Tippelbruder, we should be most happy to be at your majesty's sole disposal. Until that time, we must with great respect and regret insist on our right to work as we see fit.

Dear Jeff,

As this is a private communication I feel free to agree with your comments about the tyrant of Stagonia. What an arrogant rotter! I hope a coup d'etat comes soon to Stagonia. I am most grateful for your assurance of protection by the troops of Saxe-Bearstein; if you would like to send the Horse Grenadiers, I can issue them with their new uniforms very shortly!

David.

Incidentally, for my own usage, since most of my uniforms use very specific shades (based off the color swatches from the Vallejo paints site), I've been using the setting to either "Increase color depth" or switch to "RGB Mode" to allow me access to all possible colors. GIMP is my program of choice, but I haven't tried the one you mentioned.

Hi SC,

If you have specific colour needs I suspect that Gale would not really be for you but it it is good for the beginner who only wants to access the 256 colours in the palette with the image. You obviously do it all in a much more advanced way! :-)

Perhaps we need a few tutorials on colouring the templates, covering basics up to advanced editing like yours. Any volunteers? :-)
