Grenadier à Cheval of the French Maison Du Roi 1750s

Unit and uniform details to follow...

The unique and curious headgear is notable.

  1. That hat caught my eye, too. Looks somewhat "oriental" (Turkish, maybe?). Exotic anyway.

  2. Yes, indeed, Bill and FB - quite a hat! I wonder if it's Polish influence? Certainly, as you say, FB, it has an oriental or East European look about it.

  3. Another lovely addition to your growing uniform "compendium", David. Looking forward to those "hat" details.

  5. Great work. Any thoughts on doing AWI uniforms? I'd love a Brit Grenadier for 1780. ;o)

  6. Thanks, Trailape.

I have done a couple of AWI templates already and hope to do a few more, time and energy permitting, but I can make no promises about when and what at the moment! Sorry...

    All the best,

    David.

  8. Hi Trailape,

I have actually done a very hasty British hatman now and plan to do a British grenadier soon. Unfortunately the British grenadier cap badge is fiddly but I hope it will be done sometime soon. I'll let you know when I've finished it.

    David.

  9. Nice to see un grenadier de la maison du roi.
I am currently in the (very long) process of making myself such a uniform
Do you have any imformation of the decoration of the officer hat

  10. Rene Chartrand's Osprey on Louis XV's Cavalry and Dragoons says that men and officers wore the same headgear. I've not seen anything that contradicts that statement!

  11. Hi

On the picture 'halt des grenadiers a cheval de la maison du roi" you can see that officer wore an headgear of the same shape than the troop but with heavy decoration I can reconize a grenade but it is not all.
If you look at M petard work on the unit you will see that the bonnet of the officer is in the same shape but with silver embrodery (sorry for the spelling)
    So I go back looking
    Nice site by the way

  12. Thanks! Yes, it would be good to find some really clear pictorial evidence of the officer's hat.

    David.
