I gather that, from what little we know, Portuguese cavalry standards probably had the Braganza arms on one side and possibly the arms of the colonel on the other. Given the lack of evidence of the arms of any colonels I'll have to put the Braganza arms on both sides! As you'll only see it in action from one side at a time, then it won't matter too much... ;-)

Good luck with the painting. If you want a copy of the good quality scan I have of the Tavora execution painting, which shows details of the uniforms of 2 infantry regiments (one white, one blue) and less clearly, one cavalry regiment, let me know and I can email it to you.

Cheers,

David.David Morfitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09016926084467625584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133987073420297016.post-54943921593766431672020-09-08T04:46:12.936+00:002020-09-08T04:46:12.936+00:00Sir David, Very interesting indeed...captbillSir David, Very interesting indeed...captbillcaptbillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07933163385157707527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133987073420297016.post-25838343131117217642020-09-07T04:18:34.518+00:002020-09-07T04:18:34.518+00:00Good detective work David. Figures still inbound from North Star - I'm getting quite excited about which regiment to paint first. I'm so looking forward to all the Portuguese wargames figures that will be popping up soon with these flags! :-) I'm quite excited at the moment as looking very closely at a good quality scan of the 1759 Tavora execution painting (best to ignore the horrors going on on the scaffold - ugh - and concentrate on the flags and uniforms at the bottom) I've spotted what I think is a cavalry standard, which I shall also recreate and post. But it's now gone 4am here and time to get to bed!

Cheers,

David.David Morfitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09016926084467625584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133987073420297016.post-85329890074909161502020-09-07T02:47:06.275+00:002020-09-07T02:47:06.275+00:00Very interesting and colorful banners.
