Being a uniform and flag design service to wargamers and to the imaginary crowned heads of 17th and 18th Century Europe, especially of the Seven Years War period - now By Appointment to the Court of Saxe-Bearstein! (But please note that the uniforms and flags presented here are not fictional - they are genuine 17th and 18th Century uniforms and flags that are as authentic as I can make them from my sources.)

2nd French Foreign Infantry Template - Grenadier of Swiss Regiment Diesbach
The fur cap was not systematically used by French infantry grenadiers until after the SYW but many regiments wore fur caps of differing designs at the whim of their commanders, just as grenadiers sometimes had the distinguishing mark of grenade symbols on the turnbacks, a distinction that lasted until well into the 19th century.
Hi there David,
ReplyDeleteThe combination of a bearskin with a French uniform is very attractive. I especially like all of the buttons and the oversized cuffs. Very sharp!
Best Regards,
Stokes
Hi Stokes,
ReplyDelete:-) If you're trying to win me over to liking French uniforms, I think it's working... Keep at it! ;-)
You'll like the Grenadiers de France uniform, I think. Coming along soon but not until after the German, probably Irish and who knows what other French-style templates. (I make it up as I go along, you know. ;-))
All the best,
David.
Hi David,
ReplyDeletehopefully w'll soon discover *lot* of Stagonian uniforms: thanks!
I read the (WAS, specially) French used the bearskin with bag mainly for the grenadiers of light and oversea infantry, but it may be an oversimplification?
Compliments,
Jean-Louis
hi, liking the site mate, with just one suggestion, it would be nice if others could contact you somehow and contribute.
ReplyDeletean email address should be provided essentially.
also, can you do the swedes now :)
Oh yes! Where was my head? I agree. Some Swedes would be nice too.
ReplyDeleteBest Reards,
Stokes
Thanks for the comment, Jean-Louis. Indeed, I look forward to seeing many of the French templates in action - but sadly I haven't yet seen a single Highlander in use, despite the clamour there was for them! Ah well...
ReplyDeleteI believe you are right about the fur cap.
Regards,
David.
Hi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. Well, of course, people can make comments as you have - and putting email addresses on sites like this is unfortunately rather asking for spam. What sort of contribution other than comments had you in mind?
Swedes are on the list but some way down it, as I have many French still to do, then the Reichsarmee and then after them it will be troops in India, so with limited time it will be some time yet before any appear!
Why not start a blog and put Swedish templates of your own making on it, if you need them very soon? :-)
Regards,
David.
Hi Stokes,
ReplyDeleteSorry - I'm not quite sure to what you were agreeing in your last comment! But yes, Swedes are some way down the (ever expanding) list, as you can see from my previous reply.
All the best,
David.
The RSM marching "Lorraine Grenadier" is a particularly nice one that I highly recommend - my thoughts keep revolving around doing the Grenadiers de France or the Grenadiers Royaux on the basis of this figure alone.

Greg Horne
David,
ReplyDeleteno use of the highlander templates published yet? I suppose it takes time (& several succesive failures) to draw the tartan...
Cheers,
Jean-Louis

Hi Jean-Louis,
ReplyDeleteNo, not that I can find. You're probably right about the tartan problem! Perhaps I should do a version of the highlanders with a tartan marked in sooner rather than later but I'm somewhat occupied with the French troops at the moment...
Cheers,
David.
