After faffing about with this for aeons, I've decided it will have to do as it is. This is the older style of Prussian dragoon standard, dating from the reign of Frederick's father, Frederick William, and it has his monogram in the corners along with the older style of central motif. It was the style carried by the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th Dragoons. This motif shows an eagle flying towards the sun with the motto "Non Soli Cedit"; "He does not give way to the sun". This symbolism represents the Prussian eagle versus France or at least the French monarchy, I believe.

Excellent, up to your usual 'standard'.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time you had a list of 'alternate' nations that you were going to follow-up with some more of your splendid uniforms.
Will you be returning to that list?
Could you be enticed to pursue more from the nations of the Great Northern War?
Very nicely done! Yes more alternative nation...Bill
ReplyDeleteHi Murdock,
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I do seem to remember that people were trying to lure me into doing other periods but even then I was rather reluctant to commit myself to more than I could manage! ;-)
As it is, I barely have time and energy to continue with the SYW templates at the moment so for the foreseeable future I shall not be venturing outside the mid-18th century, I'm afraid, except perhaps for the occasional "one off" if someone begs eloquently enough. I don't like disappointing people but I'm sure you will understand. Now if someone wants to offer me £20,000 a year I might well be able to commit myself to full time template production and then the WAS, WSS, GNW and yes, Uncle Tom Cobley and all would indeed be possible... ;-)
All the best,
David.
Thanks, Bill.
ReplyDeleteFor alternative nations and scenarios, please see reply to Murdock above! ;-)
David.
Sir David,
ReplyDeleteOn closer inspection, I really like the monagram inside the wreaths. If I send you a cope of my Beerstein flag could you insert a "W" in the same style...
Best regards, Bill
Hi Bill,
ReplyDeleteYes, do send and I'll see what I can do.
All the best,
David.
