ImagiNations Flags Just Completed...


I had a request for 2 ImagiNations flags based on Prussian infantry colours from Cardinal Hawkwood on the TMP forums so thought I'd post a JPEG of them here. The originals are in PDF vector format so much crisper than these but this gives some idea of them. I did unshaded, background shaded and fully shaded versions and it was the fully shaded versions that were chosen. I have to say I'm quite pleased with the flags! :-)

    Great flags indeed! Here in Provence, where they love long-winded stories, they say of a very good invented tale that 'it deserves to be true': your flags deserve to be historical!

    Then, given their size and weight, were not the infantry flags of the times generally carried with the pole slightly resting on the shoulder -thus hanging / floating backward, with the pole forward? In that case, would not the bear look more 'aggressive' if facing to the pole?


    I hope that -very sad delays notwithstandings- some of your other creations will soon be offered to public enjoyement.

    Very nice flags indeed, sir. Lovely. And the overall concept of them is quite similar to my own Saxe-Bearstein flags (complete with a rampant bear in the center disk, although the SB bear is red).

    Of course this is no surprise since I used the Prussian flags as a model for mine.

    Alas, my artistic skills being far, far inferior to yours, I had to leave out the lovely wreath-work that you've included.

    Splendid work, David . . . and I hope that the requester of these flags will use one as his "avatar photo" . . . because they are certainly spectacular.

    Bravo, Sir David. Bravo indeed!

    Wel, as I see it, the bear faces backwards because [tall story warning on] back in the uncivilised and unregenerate mediaeval period the army had real bears that marched with it and were used to dissuade deserters in battle; nothing like a line of angry bears behind to push men towards the much less threatening enemy! In more civilised times the flags carried at the forefront of the units have bears depicted on them instead, facing back towards the army to make the point that deserters and runaways may not literally be rent limb from limb by angry bears but that the punishments will still be severe. [end of tall story mode] That's how I see it, anyway. ;-)

    I've been told that pictures of the flags in use will eventually be posted but the idea of using one as an avatar is a good one. I'll mention it to CH. Thanks.

    I'm happy to do one or two free flags on request but as I now have some paying commissions to work on my time's a bit limited for the freebies. I'm also hoping to expand the paying commissions side of things so we'll see how it goes. But let me know what you had in mind...
