This is one from my new source. I imagine that it is probably a Leibfahne as the background of the sheet is white. Many of the earlier flags do not seem to have used the Madonna figure as became standardised later, although some did. The eagle on the original is very crude so, although I have kept to its shape and style, I have "improved" it somewhat.
I did think of adding a couple of variants of this one with different coloured backgrounds rather than white; would that be a bit too ImagiNations-ish, though? I'll be interested to hear comments...
Another great flag!

Thanks, Neil. :-) Nice blog you have there; lovely work on that Indian cavalryman turban!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,

Beautiful work David.
ReplyDeleteAs an ImagiNation fan, I'd vote for some other options. The double headed eagle motif is obviously used by many central European countries anyway, so a different mix of borders would be great. Maybe a colonel's version and the 'standard' flag would be good, for those who like two flags per unit in their games?
ReplyDeleteYet another fantastic flag, thanks for posting David.

Thanks, Ray. :-) Quite a few to go yet from this new source (well, quite an old source really ;-) but new to me!).
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
David.
Are you using the troimphes of Louis XV collection or another source?
DeleteRighty ho, Steve. I've now done yellow, red and green versions of that flag, which is probably a Leibfahne, as I suggested. I'll post the new variants soon.
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
David.
Thanks, Willz. :-) A fair few to go yet, but I'll post at least another Prussian flag first (and I really must get the Baden-Baden write up finished so I can post those flags too). It's all go at NBA Flag HQ!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
David.
Yes, it's the Triomphes Louis XV - but don't tell anyone else yet! ;-) That volume has 16 certain or probable or possible Austrian flags of the 1740s - although a few are rather problematic.
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
David.
I am studying the collection for possible 1740's Dutch flags as their is a dearth on the subject, such a great resource, but yes, will keep it hush hush!
ReplyDeleteThanks. ;-) It's a great collection but the lack of any labels is pretty annoying, isn't it? Some of the earlier Triomphe collections do indicate in which battles the flasg were captured, which is a big help. Whoever put together this one was a bit sloppy, to say the least. I don't have anything very helpful on 1740s Dutch flags, I'm afraid.
