Flag of yet another unknown Austrian regiment of Charles VI, as probably carried in the 1740s by the army of Maria Theresa

And here's yet another Charles VI flag, after an illustration in my new source. I'd hate to have to paint those borders by hand on wargames flags; drawing them in a vector drawing program is tedious enough... But at least they do look good. I'll do another Prussian flag set next; it feels like a holiday doing them after the Austrian flags. 8-}

  1. This flag does look good, David. You are tempting me to reflag some of my Austrians.

  2. Thanks, Jon. :-) Sorry to make work for you - but I'd certainly like to see these flags in action with your troops!

    All the best,

    David.

  3. Another fantastic flag David! I am tempted to see if MS paint can let me modify all the lovely Ordinair-fahnen you have produced to have white backgrounds for use as speculative, but plausible, Leibfahne! Many thanks.

  5. Another fine flag David. I wouldn't fancy painting it in 28mm, talk less of 10mm. I can see why you hanker after a simpler flag!

  6. Thanks, Gundric. :-) I could fairly easily change the sheet colours of the flags to white, and, if you are happy to wait a while, I shall do that and post the changed flags - although if you are happy to have a go with MS Paint anyway, please do try it in the meantime. I suspect a more complex program like Paint.Net or Gimp might be needed to keep the shading intact.

    All the best,

    David.

    1. My skills on the graphic design side of computing are severely lacking, plus I'm not in a rush as I've just started a History MA so I could definitely wait! Many thanks for tackling this subject as the WAS tends to get left out by the the WSS and the SYW.

  7. Thanks, Willz. :-) More to come soon after another Prussian set and hopefully the flags of Baden=Baden.

    All the best,

    Dabid.

  8. Thanks, Steve. :-) It's the variety of borders in those Austrian flags that makes them so interesting, of course, as well as making them a bit of a pain to draw! I have seen some amazing hand-painted flags online but I suspect, like you and me, that most people would be rather disinclined to try it...

I shall eventually get round to doing my own versions of the more standardised Austrian flags of the SYW too.

    All the best,

    David.

  9. Good luck with the MA. Is it general or a specific historical topic? It doesn't take me too long to convert the flags to white backgrounds, although it is another job. But I will get there, and post the possible Leibfahnen on the blog eventually. I've long had a liking for the WAS, although the evidence does become somewhat thinner as we head back through the 18th century, of course! That's certainly especially true of the WSS and before... (It can be true of the SYW too, though.) I should be used to lack of or difficult evidence by now, having done a PhD on a historical topic, but it still frustrates me!

    All the best,

    David.

  10. Well, I have now converted the four Austrian Charles VI company flags to possible Leibfahnen and posted them! I got the bug to do it, I suppose. ;-)
