I had a request recently on advice for resizing and printing my flags so thought I'd pass on the advice I gave to others who may find it useful. I suggest getting hold of the free Open Source Libre Office suite of programs https://www.libreoffice.org/ and using the Draw program within it, which is a vector drawing program. Drop the flags into a page in that program and you can resize them for printing without losing detail. DO NOT resize them in a bitmap program like Paint as you will reduce the number of pixels and badly affect the quality of the flags! If anyone needs further advice or help, send me a message via my Contact form (left column) and I'll do what I can to help. Or simply post a comment to this posting and I'll reploy below, as your query and the reply might help others...

David, I also have a lot of experience resizing your flags. Happy to help when needed.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jon. :-) Yes, there are definitely plenty of different ways to do it!
DeleteAll the best,
David.
In the distant past I created flags as reasonable resolution pdf files and used the scaling feature of the printer driver to reduce them for 6mm figures. For example:

Thanks for the comment. Yes, that's certainly an option, though with my PNG files it may be a bit simpler to try the method I suggest above. For some people the conversion to PDF might be a bit tricky!
DeleteAll the best,
David.
Thanks for the tip David and will bear this in mind for the future:).
ReplyDelete:-) My pleasure, Steve. Hope it helps sometime...
DeleteAll the best,
David.
I use Corel Draw Essential for reducing it, and it works very well, too.
ReplyDeleteYes, thanks; any decent vector drawing program will do a good job!
DeleteCheers,
David.
Hi David, do you have any recommendations for printer papers, please?
ReplyDeleteHi Simon, I find any decent 80 gsm paper works fine; heavier papers do not allow easy rippling of the flags, which I feel bring them to life. The crucial thing is quality of printing, I feel; laser printing brings out the fine detail and colour quality. A good high resolution inkjet would probably do a decent job too.
DeleteThanks David, I'll try some out on different papers on my inkjet.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. Please let me know how you get on! Cheers, David.
