Fons et Origo - or how it all started

It was Jean-Louis' recent posting about the templates on the Saxe-Bearstein blog on the Yahoo Old School Wargaming forum that first intrigued me; and then I read that Jeff of Saxe-Bearstein just couldn't find the staff to make up his hussar uniform pattern template. In fact there seems to be a dearth of suitably qualified tailor/draughtsmen in the whole of imaginary SYW Europe. Foolishly, certainly quixotically, I find myself stepping forward and offering my services without waiting for an invitation - hence Not By Appointment. I'm naturally hoping that such services as I can render will save me from the clutches of the likes of Frederick the Great's recruiters (aka kidnappers), as I'm sure that handling a musket would be far worse than handling a mouse or tablet. Indeed, perhaps one day I shall be honoured by receiving the accolade By Appointment from one of the august personages to whom I dare to offer my humble inky-fingered services. ;-)

  3. David,

WOW, just Wow. I stumbled across your blog on the syw yahoo group and it is a wonderful thing. I run a blog of my own and wanted to put up plates on the net for people to use and couldn't find any. I managed to talk someone into drawing some for me, but always kinda felt like I was imposing.

What you are doing is wonderful work, please keep it up! By the way I'm a Prussian and Austrian fan, so keep pumping those out!

    Check out my blog sometime,

    Thanks again for your work!

  4. Thanks for the kind comments. I was beginning to flag a bit, having had no response to the posting of the Hanoverian cavalry templates, and your post gives me some motivation to plug on again! Thanks. It's the responses on the blog that keep me going. I was just about to do some Prussian infantry variants with the Prussian cuff and brandenbourg lace, so I may as well go ahead, now I know there's another active fan!

I had a look at your blog; very nice figures! It made me drool somewhat. I have large numbers of 6mm SYW Prussian and Austrian figures I bought years ago but I've never tried painting them. I'm hopeless at figure painting - I just don't have the patience for it. But drawing and tweaking templates is another thing... :-)

Good luck with your blog too; I'll keep dropping by to see what you are doing.

    David.
