Flag of yet another unknown Austrian regiment of Charles VI, as probably carried in the 1740s by the army of Maria Theresa

This Charles VI flag shows that the older War of the Spanish Succession-style square flags were still being carried in the 1740s.

I have also posted a possible Leibfahne, following the pattern of many of the Charles VI period flags.

  1. Thanks, Ray. :-) More to come of these still - I shall be sorry when I run out of material!

    All the best,

  2. Another fine set of flags David. The blue and white 'flames' as a background are certainly unusual but make it more eye catching for sure.

  3. Thanks, Steve. :-) It seems to have been an older design used in Austrian flags more typically of the late 17th and early 18th century - but a few survived to the 1740s, it seems, as a relic of the variety and colour of the past.

    All the best,

    David.

  5. Thank you, Willz. :-) Prussians next, I think, as I have a number of them sitting in the stockpile, and then back to the Austrians!

    All the best,

    David.

  6. David, another fine flag specimen from your talented hand. I am so tempted to reflag all of my SYW Austrians with these earlier flags.

  9. Thanks, Jon. :-) Would it be worth having extra command stands with the Charles VI flags so you could swap in and out, and have 1740s Austrians and SYW Austrians as you wish? Or would that be too much work and expense? No doubt it would be simpler just to swap the flags!

    All the best,

    David.
