Flags of the French Militia (Milices Régionales) of Dunkerque

I have quite a large backlog of flags waiting for their texts now but the recent cold weather has made the study, where the computer is, pretty uninhabitable except for very short spells of work; it has always been a very cold room but is much worse now the central heating has packed in! Even the small fan heater does not make much impression on the cold. We are promised a thaw now and hopefully that will make longer spells of work in the study more tolerable...

Anyway, domestic woes aside, I here present the flags of the French militia of Dunkerque (Dunkirk) to keep things ticking over on the blog. As I have said before, we have relatively little information on the French militia flags and this is one of the few that is known. The Milices Régionales were raised to protect the coasts and frontiers of France and were maintained by the provinces.

  1. Another splendid flag set. Hope you get heat soon. If the Duffy book ever shows up, I hope it isn’t needed to take the chill off the room.

    1. Thanks, Jon. The thaw has set in and things are a lot more tolerable at present; it's just cold now in the house rather than freezing. Ha. There is no way I would ever sacrifice a Duffy to the flames to warm things up; if the worst happened, we'd have to use some paperbacks out of our 15,000 book collection. I'm sure we could find something we don't too much mind sacrificing... ;-0

      All the best,

      David.

  2. Another fine flag David and I do hope your heating gets fixed soon. Ours went some years ago around the New Year and we had 3 very cold days with no hot water or heating, but luckily I managed to nab a portable radiator from work to make it just about bearable.

    1. Thanks, Steve. :-) Luckily we still have hot water as it's the radiators that are kaput and not the boiler; long story. You had it worse with no hot water too!

      All the best,

      David.

    1. Thanks, Donnie. :-) We can survive if the boiler keeps going; it looks as if the radiator problem will be much longer term being resolved. Roll on spring!

      All the best,

      David.
