Here are two Austrian cavalry standards of unknown regiments as depicted in the MS Triomphes de Louis XV:
Earlier depictions of Austrian cavalry standards do suggest some were as plain as this, although most of the surviving later 18th century standards in the Austrian Army Museum in Vienna have astonishing amounts of elaborate gold and silver embroidery.

Only one side shown on the Triomphes. Perhaps only the reverse (or the averse) of a flag. Other side would perhaps be much more elaborate. Also, Cuirassiers standards had normally a damask or brocade field.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve. :-) Indeed; I quite agree. The double eagle emblem makes a fine somewhere in Eastern Europe emblem and the flags do not have very much making them too obviously from one real country. Win/win there!
