Thinking where I might go with more of my favourite French infantry flags (despite having done over 100 sets and posted them, there are still many left to depict!), as an initial project I may focus on French infantry flags carried at Malplaquet in 1709. Still pondering that...
In the meantime, here are the flags carried by French infantry regiment Boufflers 1706-1710 which became Bombelles 1710-1714; both sets of flags are shown here.
First raised 3rd February 1706 by Antoine-Charles-Louis, Count of Boufflers.
Service (according to Susane): Army of Flanders
1708 Battle of Oudenarde
1709 Battle of Malplaquet
Given 24th October 1711 to Henri-Francois, Count of Bombelles
Service: 1712 Battle of Denain; capture of Douai, Quesnoy and Bouchain
Incorporated into Regiment Royal on the 4th October 1714
And this was the uniform in 1708:
Lovely flag David and both rather different too, really very nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donnie. :-) It's good to be back with the French for a change!

Now that's striking!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve. :-) Yes, a fair number of the short-lived WSS French units had interestingly different flags...

Both coloured flags are superb David, the first kinda reminds e of the later French Revolutionary flags of the 1790's.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ray. :-) Yes, you are right; there is something of the 1790s about that flag!

Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWillz.
Thank you, Willz. :-) Can't beat the French flags, I say... ;-)

Outstanding!! Your flags keep getting better and better
ReplyDeleteThank you! I do hope they are improving in at least some respects!

Excellent flags all round David, but the middle one does look like a puzzle game to me, the sort of one you see in IQ tests etc!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve. :-) Very true - many French flags I shall be depicting are very much the same in style! I suspect the people designing them had to come up with something a bit different each time and this sort of puzzle design came naturally! I confess I rather like them. ;-)
