In the 1680s and 1690s the Holland Regiment (later the 3rd Foot The Buffs) had a variety of unusual colours; by the War of the Spanish Succession they were different again and more conventional, and I shall depict those later.
Full details of the history of the regiment can be found here at the Kronoskaf WSS page: https://kronoskaf.com/wss/index.php?title=Prince_George_of_Denmark%27s_Foot Many of the reference volumes cited by Kronoskaf can be found on archive.org

Yum!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! :-) The grumpy face on the sun in splendour is intentional, by the way. ;-)

Very, very nice David and I really like the 1685 designs the best:).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve. :-) Yes, they are the more attractive, I agree - and they changed again early in the 18th century!

Lovely standards David and as Steve says the 1685 one my favourite too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donnie. :-) The sun in splendour is unusual for English flags of the period - I don't think it features again...
