Flag of French Milice de Lorraine 1742

I can find no information on this unit but rather liked the flag so here it is. It is unusual enough to please even ImagiNations users, I think! :-)



This (and the previous posting) was a somewhat unintended wander into the byways of French militia flaggery. I shall return again sometime but next I'll be back with Prussian, regular French and other flags.

I've now done the actual flags for Prussian Infantry Regiments 4, 11, 14 and 16 but still have to do the uniform plates and text, never a quick task.

    Perhaps a foray into French cavalry standards would be nice???

      Thanks, Jon. :-) French cavalry standards are on my To Do (At Some Point) List; it's just a matter of time and energy and getting the other things I'm in the middle of doing, done!

      Thanks. :-) It is described in Pierre Charrié's Drapeaux Et Étendards Du Roi, and I also have an illustration of it I was sent ages ago. Sadly we seem to know nothing about the unit.

      Thank you, Stokes. :-) Yes, it's a pretty unusual design for a French flag. I wish we knew more about militia flags as details of only a handful survive, sadly.
